- Responsive communication: questions are answered thoroughly and without defensiveness
- Project transparency: breeding goals, timelines, and methodologies are shared openly
- Protected payments: the breeder accepts payment methods with buyer protections
- Published store policy: shipping terms, live arrival guarantee, and return policies are available before purchase
- Consistent feeding records: the breeder can provide feeding history and weight data for listed animals
Questions to ask before buying
- Who are the parents (dam and sire) of this animal?
- What is the feeding history since hatch?
- How is the animal currently housed?
- What is your live arrival and health guarantee?
- Do you ship hub-to-hub or residential?
- What weather conditions trigger a shipping hold?
Warning signs
Breeders who cannot identify parentage, refuse to share feeding records, insist on unprotected payment methods, or become hostile when asked basic questions are not worth the risk. The ball python community has enough reputable breeders that no buyer needs to accept poor communication or unclear terms.
